Why We ❤ It:
  • History. Built in late 19th century by Peter Servain, a French immigrant, in the “French Castle Block” style using granite from the nearby Griffith Quarry. A tragic train accident ended Servain’s life so his widow sold the property to Joel Parker Whitney (the namesake of Whitney Oaks Golf Course) around 1888. Under his ownership, it became the Citrus Colony Club Headquarters. In 1919, The Penryn Fruit Company purchased the clubhouse and acreage. Since that time it has gone through mostly long-term ownership by families who have lovingly left their mark on the home and property.
  • Location. With the Penryn Oak Stables literally next door, you won’t have to decide whether to board your horse or try and manage the upkeep yourself. And equestrian trails are right across the road at the Traylor Nature Reserve and Bird Sanctuary. Plus you’re just minutes from Roseville, so your weekly errands will be a breeze.
  • Updates. New engineered flooring and carpet throughout. Remodel of all bathrooms using Carrara marble, ½-inch glass, and Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware vanities and faucets. Kitchen has Subzero styled 34” fridge and 34” freezer, new contemporary granite counters, and 6-burner stove and oven combo, as well as recessed lighting and ceiling fans have been added.

The picturesque landscape greets you before you even see the house. Situated atop a hill, it peeks at you through several trees. You can already begin to imagine what kind of view the house has as you make your way up the driveway.

There are several entrances to the home, but let’s begin with the kitchen. Take the brick path up to the red Dutch door. As you enter, notice the gorgeous wood lining the wall to your left. It is simply stunning next to the crisp whites of the kitchen.

The island is the true centerpiece of the kitchen. 4×4 wood columns lend themselves to the historical charm, while the recessed lighting, leathered style granite countertop, and stainless steel apron sink add a chic, modern aesthetic. Add in the enormous fridge/freezer and the fabulous stove and you’ll want to spend all your time in here. There is even plenty of space for an eat-in table with windows that overlook the luscious landscape.

Step through the wooden archway into the living room. Noticed the open beamed ceiling with energy-efficient LED recessed lighting. The window and door frames are railroad ties. A new high-end wood-burning stove has been installed in one corner – I LOVE the floor-to-ceiling brick wall behind it! Don’t forget to check out the large deck accessible from this room – sunsets on the veranda, anyone? 😉

Back through the kitchen, you’ll find the first of the fabulous remodeled bathrooms. This one doubles as the laundry room AND has outdoor access. I just adore an antique style tub, don’t you? It is accompanied by the first guest bedroom.

Head upstairs and you’ll find 2 more guest bedrooms and the beautifully remodeled upstairs guest bath. The tile, glass, lighting, and high-end shower heads of both guest bathrooms are simply stunning.

This Master Suite is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Engineered flooring, wood-lined wall, slanted ceiling, and new bathroom all give this space a completely unique look. There is room for everything in this enormous closet (we know I love those!).

Built into the existing granite underneath the living room is a large, cool, dark room that could be a perfect wine cellar. Store all your favorite vintages in the coolest part of the house!

Or you might use this as an extra storage space – but honestly, with a 3-car garage already, and a storage room next to this one, you’ll be able to let your imagination run wild with this space!

Irrigation has been installed throughout the property which includes power to the gazebo so string up the lights and invite your friends for an enchanted evening. I believe there has even been a wedding here!

Walk along the vineyard and you’ll find an archery set up and sports court for basketball, etc. Past the vineyard, the green pasture is often spotted with ducks and geese. Two willows weep gracefully over your very own pond.

The lot extends to the left of the pond so you won’t be running out of room any time soon!
